Every year, millions of these large crabs emerge from the forest and make their way to the ocean to breed, swarming across roads, streams, rocks and beaches.
The red crab migration starts with the wet season (November/December), though predicting its exact timing is challenging. However, the spawning, linked to a specific moon phase, can be estimated. This event usually occurs over two mornings in November or December, or even January if the rains are late. We have secured two of the expected dates.
